Fullwell Community Library is a library of approximately 19,500 books which serves a local community of 10,000 people with others coming from further away. The library is free and runs on a trust basis with no records being held. We also have 8 desktop computers and 4 laptops which are also free. We have considerable overheads and meet these with a community cafe as well as room hire and sale of crafts donated by local people.

We also run money-raising events such as afternoon teas and quizzes. We had 40,596 visitors last year according to our door counter and provide services for all age groups with art groups, book clubs, writers clubs, beetle drives, mini explorers, ukulele group, choir with 80 members etc. We meet a social need in the community and our library is well attended. We have been able through donation to acquire many modern best sellers and our book collection is much improved on what we inherited leading to very favourable comparisons with our peers.

The library runs with its volunteers with over 60 people volunteering their time to work in the community in a range of occupations from handyman to gardening as well as usual library functions. Visitors praise the volunteers for their friendly attitude and welcoming manner. We converse with those who come into the library on their own and many lonely people have found somewhere where they can meet other people and we have many groups meeting up regularly to chat with friends old and new. Children really enjoy our Rhyme Time sessions for babies upwards and young mothers who are often isolated can meet and talk with others in the same position. We have a good relationship with many local organisations and cooperate with them to improve our local area.
